We are excited to face a complex problem of urban restructuring of a specific area, the current Plaza de Abastos, in the town of Sanxenxo. Faced with this complex problem, we are committed to a simple solution that helps to enhance the great opportunity that the resolution of this urban reality offers.
ESPAZO is projected. We propose a bare architecture, skeleton and skin, a flexible space that allows a distribution, and even a transformation over time, according to the changing needs of our current society. A poetic idea that we are excited to imagine as a great hórreo, a space of our time where the existing activity of the food market, revised in a contemporary key with the inclusion of a gourmet space, and on the other hand complementary activities for the community, will be united on the one hand.
The building is intended to serve as a vibrant multi-purpose social centre that catalyses the diverse synergies of Sanxenxo’s population; both regular and floating residents. Everyone will call this new building: Espazo.
